Boston Marathon 2011 registration open

The Boston Marathon due to begin in 2011 is one of the most anticipated spots events in Boston. This is going to be the 115th Marathon and registration for this event has already started.

Boston Marathon 2011 registration open

However unlike when the Marathon first began participants can register online at the Boston Athletic Association’s website for the event which is due to take place on April 18, 2011 at 9 am sharp on Monday.

The rules for entrance into the race are still the same i.e. all entrants need to meet the Association’s speed and time standards which vary quite a bid depending on the age and the gender of the entrant.

The qualifying standards for the Boston Marathon should have been met after the 20th of September 2009 on a certified Marathon track by the USA Track & Field association or if you are coming from abroad then any foreign equivalent.

Participants need to pay an entrance fee of $130 and since the race is capped at 22,790 it’s imperative that you get registered as soon as possible as the slots do fill up quite quickly. You also need to keep in mind that this figure was reached in just under two months last year and this year the way people are lining up things could go even faster.

Last year’s race as many of you remember was pretty close and this year it could be even more interesting if many of those old racers make a return entrance this year. However the winner of the Men’s event was Rober Kiprono Cheruiyot who crossed the finish line in record time.

Falcon and Nelson on track and field

Tall City Christian Track Club's Miah Nelson, 12, left, and West Texas Track Club's Michelle Falcon, 11, right, are headed to the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics

Miah Nelson is a maturing track-and-field star, a lifer who competed on the national stage before she broke double-digits in the birthday department.

Michelle Falcon took her exposure to the track and field a little more than a year ago. A friend on the soccer team brought her to the sport.

Both athletes are about to take their talents to the national stage. Nelson and Falcon have qualified to compete at the 44th USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., from July 27-Aug. 1.

Nelson had other plans.

Nelson — who won the mile as a Bonham Junior High seventh-grader last year — has suddenly developed a set of springs most distance runners simply don’t have. Three years ago, Nelson’s 800-meter legs carried her to a 16th-place finish in her first national appearance.

Falcon, 11, qualified in the high jump.

But her ability to rise to the occasion came out of nowhere. At this time last year, Falcon and a soccer teammate decided to try out track.

Turns out that Falcon, a seventh-grader at Ector, has found her sport.

“We only started last summer,” said Rudy, her father. “I never expected her to get to this level.”

Falcon had run track during her days in elementary school.

Competing during the summer, though, was a completely different world. For the first time, Falcon gave high jump a try, and she came through at the Region 12 meet to tie for second place and a qualifying spot.
