Jessica Ennis has been named World Sportswoman of the Year at the Laureus Awards. She combats for Olympic heptathlon gold in London last summer. Olympic high jump gold medallist Tia Hellebaut has declare her retirement from athletics. Orleans half-marathon: Athlete Mo Farah sets new record

Britain’s Mo Farah edged away Ethiopian Gebre Gebremariam in a spectacular finish to succeed at the New Orleans half-marathon in a latest national record. Athletics : Coulson wins at European Challenge

The Russian anti-doping agency has finds she tested positive for an anabolic steroid. Pishchalnikova reject any bad behavior. But she could face a life ban from the sport if found guilty because it would be her next offence. She served a doping disallow of 2 years and 9 months from July 2008 to April 2011 after test positive for Methylhexanamine.

Pishchalnikova was among seven leading female Russian athletes found guilty of influence drug samples before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. As well as claiming silver at this year’s Olympics in London and the world title in Daegu, South Korea in 2011, Pishchalnikova also won silver at the 2009 World Championship in Osaka, Japan, but was stripped of the medal after the IAAF annulled all her results from May 2007.

Athletics: UK Sport introduces three year elite coaching program

UK Sport has make public a new three-year best coaching programme that will help carry up to 12 people in the run-up to the Rio Olympics in 2016. The £20,000 per person, per year scheme aims to turn those chosen into prospect leaders in their disciplines. “Our plan is to take British coaching from world class to world leading,” said Graham Taylor.

In spite of GB’s third place in the London 2012 award table, an information flagged training as an area for step up. The new money will pay the development costs for those chosen, with their earnings still being provided by each individual sport’s national governing body. Eriksson appointed as new coach for UK athletics
