The Jamaicans who are currently positioned sixth in the medal table with 32 medals, will be looking to add to this tally and are expected to feature in four finals today.
At this point, the Jamaicans have so far secured 12 gold medals, eight silver and 12 bronze medals.
Former Edwin Allen and Munro College middle-distance standout Aldwyn Sappleton will face the starter in the finals of the men’s 800m after he secured his spot with a 1:49.44 run for second place in his semi-final on Tuesday. The Olympian and World Junior relay champion will however have to run closer to his 1:46.82 personal best, if he is to challenge for a podium spot in today’s final.
Four-time national champion Wilbert Walker will be setting his sights on a medal in the men’s triple-jump finals, which also gets under way later today.
Walker has already posted his personal best this season; leaping 16.76m on his way to winning the national title earlier this summer, and will be looking to add a CAC medal to his credits.
Finals
Jamaica’s female team will run out of lane five in the finals of the event, which is being contested as a straight finals, but the men will run out of lane five in the first of two semi-finals earlier.
Maurice Smith will actually be the first Jamaican in action as he gets going with the first five events in the men’s decathlon, with the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 500m, all scheduled to be completed today.
The 2007 World Championships silver medalist will contest the remaining five disciplines in the decathlon tomorrow; 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500m.
