The British Virgin Islands Athletic Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2010 and one of the ways the association aim to celebrate the occasion is by producing an anniversary book to stress the achievements of the islands athletes, who competed over the past 40 years.
President of the BVIAA Dean Greenaway, told, “We have plans to honor several peoples who have contributed to the improvement of the sport prior to the development of the association. We will create an anniversary book incorporating past publication, highlighting our success over the last 40 years. We will honor all our nationalized record breakers, worldwide medalists over the last 40 years and others who have contributed to the organization on Sept 25, 2010.”
Greenaway too believed, “Over the past year, in particular, the BVIAA, established an ‘Athlete of the Week’ plan (which highlights youth, junior and senior performances) and a National Record Breakers appreciation program. A new plan was introduced for our youth championships, with the top performers from the Inter-Primary Schools Championships, Under 15s from the Elmore Stoutt High, St. Georges and Bregado Flax Educational Center School Championships getting personal invitations. This event attracted over 300 contestants and went over very well.”
