Algonac, Yale girls collide Tuesday

Filed under: Athletic store — admin @ 7:46 am

The stretch run of the winter sports season will swing into high gear this week.

In Blue Water Area Conference girls basketball action, the two frontrunners for the division title, Algonac and Yale, will clash on Tuesday.

Both teams have one conference loss.

Yale was still unbeaten in the BWAC before losing to Almont, the defending BWAC champions, on Friday.

Now the Bulldogs will look to bounce back at home against Algonac in a BWAC showdown.

Also on Tuesday night, Ubly will travel to Sandusky for a Greater Thumb Conference East Division game.

The teams are tied atop the standings, along with Brown City, which is scheduled to play at Mayville Tuesday.

The St. Clair County Community College women’s basketball team has an important game on Wednesday at home against Kirtland CC.

The Skippers are in a three-way tie for third place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference.

The top four teams in the conference will advance to the state tournament.

SC4 previously beat Kirtland earlier this season, and another win would give the Skippers the tiebreaker advantage.
Hockey

The Port Huron Icehawks are off until this weekend when they will play three consecutive days, including Friday and Saturday at home against Flint and Muskegon, respectively.
Wrestling

On Saturday, several league meets will take place on the mat.

That includes the BWAC league meet in Capac. The Richmond Blue Devils and Yale Bulldogs are the top favorites for the league championship.

Richmond is coming off of a stellar performance at the Oakland-Macomb dual meet, where it defeated three Division 1 ranked teams.
